If the COVID-19 pandemic has taught designers anything, it’s the importance of working from home and the ability to collaborate, communicate and share ideas online, and maintain business continuity. As the world reopens, family and friends come together and are welcome back into these private spaces. The need for safe, clean and healthy homes and workplaces is more important than ever. Tony Parez-Edo Martin, industrial designer and founder of Paredo Studio, has enhanced Dassault Systemes’ 3DEXPERIENCE cloud platform to create an innovative air purifier concept called e-flow. The design disguises its air purification and ventilation functions as a motorized pendant light.
“My design work aims to find innovative answers to environmental and social issues such as urban healthcare mobility, which I am addressing in the 2021 e-rescue sports car project. report, we’re used to hearing about air quality in urban areas, but this pandemic has made us curious about what’s in and out of our homes, the air we breathe, the entire home or workspace,” Tony said Tony Parez – Exclusive interview with Edo Martin for designboom magazine.
Suspended from the ceiling, e-flow air purifiers appear to float statically or cinematically above the room, creating a practical or relaxing atmosphere of light. The dual-layer finned blades move smoothly as air is drawn into the bottom filter system, cleaned and then dispersed through the top fins. This ensures uniform ventilation of the room due to the movement of the hands.
“Users do not want the product to constantly warn them about the presence of a virus, but it must ensure the safety of residents,” the designer explained. “The idea is to subtly disguise its function with a lighting system. It combines versatile air purification with a lighting system. Like a chandelier suspended from the ceiling, it’s perfect for legitimizing ventilation and lighting.
From his skeleton, you can see how organic the air purifier is. The natural form and movement directly influenced his concept. The poetic result reflects the forms found in the architectural work of Santiago Calatrava, Zaha Hadid and Antoni Gaudí. Calatrava’s Umbracle – a curved pavement in Valencia with shaded shapes aimed at preserving biodiversity – highlights its comparison.
“Design draws inspiration from nature, mathematics and architecture, and its dynamic appearance is very poetic and emotional. People like Santiago Calatrava, Zaha Hadid and Antoni Gaudí inspired the design, but not only. I used Dassault Systemes 3DEXPERIENCE in the cloud. New platform application, application is topology optimization for airflow.This is a software that generates a shape by simulating airflow and input parameters, which I then form into various designs.The original shape is so organic, and with them there are similarities between the works of famous architects, which are poetic,” Tony explained.
Inspiration is captured and quickly converted into design ideas. An intuitive natural sketching application and 3D sketching tools are used to create conceptual 3D volumes, making it easy to share diagrams with colleagues. 3D Pattern Shape Creator explores patterns with powerful algorithmic generative modeling. For example, the wavy top and bottom surfaces were generated using a digital modeling application.
“I always start with 3D sketches to represent the various axes of innovation such as modularity, sustainability, bionics, kinetic principles, or nomadic use. I use the CATIA Creative Design app to quickly move to 3D, where 3D curves allow me to create first geometry, going back, and visually changing the surface, I found this to be a very convenient way to explore the design,” added the designer.
Through Tony’s innovative work, designers often collaborate with company experts, engineers, and other designers to try out and test new software developments on the Dassault Systemes 3DEXPERIENCE platform in the cloud. This platform is used for all electronic process design development. Its complete set of tools allows developers to imagine, display and test air purifiers and even understand their mechanical, electrical and other system requirements.
“The first goal of this project was not to test the tool, but to have fun and explore the possibilities of the idea,” Tony explained. “However, this project really helped me learn about new technologies from Dassault Systèmes. They have a lot of great engineers who combine technologies to develop applications. Through the cloud, over-the-air updates add new enhancements to the creator’s toolbox. One of the great new tools I’ve tested , was a flow driver with a generative design that was perfect for developing an air purifier because it is an airflow simulation.

“The 3DEXPERIENCE platform is very powerful, from web services like 3D printing to collaboration capabilities. Creators can create and communicate in the cloud in a very nomadic, modern way. I spent three weeks working on this project in Cape Town, South Africa,” said the designer.

It adds personality to the project by blending poetry, sustainability and technology. 3D printing offers a lot of freedom as it allows you to create shapes that can’t be achieved with injection molding while still choosing the lightest materials.
